WeSalute Culture

Introduction to WeSalute Culture

Our WeSalute Culture gives us the best chance for the progress of our mission, product, the happiness of users and the team, and personal professional growth. Our Vision is where we are going, and our Culture makes sure we can get there.

WeSalute strives to maintain a culture of honest and ethical business operations. We seek to improve the quality of our services, products, and operations and continuously strengthen our reputation for honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility, integrity, trust and sound business judgment, as outlined in our Code of Conduct (“Code”).

As a valued team member, you are expected to adhere to the same high standard of business and personal integrity.

Our Code applies to all full-time/part-time employees, temporary employees, board members, and consultants (the Code refers to these as “Team Members”) of WeSalute.

To get started at WeSalute, you must read and agree to the Code and adhere to its principles as a condition of employment, consulting, or other working agreement with the Company. You are also expected to report any known or suspected violation of the Code, the Company’s policies, applicable laws and regulations, and any criminal activity, whether or not it involves you. If you suspect a violation of the Code please submit a confidential help desk ticket to the PeopleOps Help Desk. For assistance in creating a PeopleOps Help Desk ticket, please read the PeopleOps Help Desk tutorial.

Our Culture

The foundation of the WeSalute Culture is grounded in these three things we ask of you. We call them the Three Respects.

  1. Respect the user
  2. Respect each other
  3. Respect the opportunity

We encourage you to embody and demostrate our culture with the following principals in achieving success within our WeSalute Culture:

  • Be growth-minded. Analyze and read everything. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Never stop learning, whether it’s a skill, a marketplace, about the customer, the industry, or the world. Share your knowledge with the team and encourage reflection.
  • Be empathetic. Recognize your fellow team members' efforts. Respect different voices. Welcome unique points of view. Strive to understand, not just accept. Remain humble and champion each other.
  • Be fearlessly creative. Embrace autonomy, an entrepreneurial attitude and risk-taking. Stand up for your scariest ideas. Disregard the way things have always been done in favor of the better, the bigger and the best ways to get stuff done. Challenge the status quo. Make new things happen.
  • Be responsible. What you do is part of who you are. Own your decisions. Take action. Don’t set it and forget it. The ball is always in your court. Be accountable. You might not be the best person to fix everything but you always have the opportunity to help find the solution.
  • Be honest. Embed trust in everything you do. Work with integrity. Be trusted to do the right thing at the right time.
  • Be patient. There is no magic bullet. Keep focused on the goal. Resilience is the key to achieving success one step at a time. Be persistent in achieving results.

Team Bonding and Making Connections

With our remote-first culture, at WeSalute we prioritize virtual team bonding and opportunities to foster positive interactions and connections between all Team Members.

As a WeSalute Team Member, you are encouraged to engage in virtual bonding through our support networks. We host the “Watercooler” channel on Slack for sharing the personal aspects of your life with fellow Team Members. By creating as many opportunities for casual conversation as possible, we hope you’ll have the opportunity to develop bonds with those you work with day-to-day in our virtual workspaces.

Camaraderie and inclusion are essential here at WeSalute. We host virtual activities and parties twice a year (summer and winter) to get the team involved with the company culture and with each other. Although it is not a requirement to participate, it is a great way to connect with other teams and coworkers in a remote work environment.

As part of our remote-first culture, we encourage in-person retreats. Bringing our Team Members together to meet in person will be a fun and beneficial way to build and strengthen our teams.

Blameless Culture and Trial and Error

At WeSalute, we want to nurture and maintain a culture based on transparency and trust within our team. We understand that mistakes happen. We are all human. When those mistakes happen, we want our Team Members to feel comfortable enough to report those to both their fellow Team Members and management so we can work together to find a resolution while learning from these events. We will properly document and communicate to avoid these incidents in the future. If for whatever reason you feel uncomfortable coming to your manager please feel free to contact PeopleOps.

Inclusive Workplace

We welcome diversity at WeSalute and celebrate our Team which is complete with people from all walks of life, backgrounds, cultures and experiences. Everyone has something to bring to the table and everyone should come to their place of work and feel recognized and included.

WeSalute is dedicated to the culture and education of diversity, equity and inclusion. It is our priority to foster an authentically diverse, inclusive, and cultural environment that enhances a multicultural mindset. Each employee is encouraged to express themselves regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and veteran status.

A Culture of Continuous Learning

At WeSalute, we encourage a mindset of continuous learning. We implore our Team Members to be curious. Asking “why?” is a question that is always welcome, and finding answers for that “why’ is what ensures we deliver value in the eyes of the customer. In the spirit of continuous education, we encourage all Team Members to find creative ways to better themselves and in the process, the company as a whole. If you want to explore an avenue of learning, whether that be a certificate, an online course, or you want to share something you read in an article or book with the Team, please feel free to do so. If you intend to pursue a program or certificate for a specific career path, please get in touch with the PeopleOps Learning Coordinator to discuss your goals.

Radical Communication & Transparency

Why Radical Communication & Transparency?

A cohesive team is at the core of a successful organization. Our team members are our boots on the ground, the ones who get the job done, and their success is dependent on the way they communicate while achieving their objectives. We owe it to them to feel safe, supported, and equipped to get the job done.

Basic human behaviors fuel their achievements, and that’s where we call on team members to practice “Radical Mutual Transparency” (RMT). It connects us all in a way that fosters trust and a desire to help one another. It lets us see our true selves intimately, without filters or barriers, so we support each other without misunderstandings—the real benefit of transparency.

What Does Radical Mutual Transparency Look Like?

  • Clear Communications
  • Complete Collaboration
  • Infinite Empathy
  • Unwavering Resilience

How Do I Practice Radical Mutual Transparency?

  • Honesty
    • Maintain consistent values and integrity in your communications with your co-workers.
    • If you notice you are signaling a new tone, describe your thought process in your change. Remember, people are trying to be responsible in responding to your communications throughout the day. Respect that by considering the impact of changes in direction.
    • Practice a sincere desire to help instead of desire to prove you are right, or to judge another person.
    • When it comes to team collaboration, big questions are openly discussed, and the team agrees on final direction. Then, the team is to be focused on implementation.

How to Foster Respectful Collaboration in Meetings

  • Foster an environment where everyone feels safe to voice their opinions, suggestions or ideas. If someone is consistently not participating reach out to them one-on-one to give them an opportunity to express their ideas.
  • Offer the time for one to “have the floor” to speak fully without interruption. Listen actively to listen, not for a green light to respond.
  • Active listening: Be aware of your thoughts as you listen. Are you hearing the words of others, or is there a louder voice in your head responding with your perspective? Active listening means you choose the former.
  • Understand the benefits of openly recognizing the opinions of others.
  • “Giving Space” to others is essential. Empathy is expressed in the way you understand and appreciate the personal work habits of another team member.
  • Train yourself on empathy

At the end of each day, you should ensure the following:

  • I was a valuable resource to my team today.
  • I was honest, authentic, empathetic, and helpful.
  • I was speaking in the best interest of the team’s or company’s objectives.

Respect

  • How to support others through the change process.
    • Understand and appreciate the world of your teammates. What’s really going on in their day? What’s the model of how they prefer to work? What has to happen for them to feel fulfilled in their day?
    • Connect with each other. Ask how they are doing first, before talking about yourself.
    • Your role is to help to lift others through active encouragement and look for signs of help.
    • Define problems in solvable terms. What does that person need, want, and what’s blocking them from getting it.
    • Identify resources, from outside and within the person to solve the problem.
