This is unreleased documentation for Operational Excellence.
End of Quarter
Ideally, the End of Quarter is a tightly prepared and executed window. Traditionally, the "end of quarter" is a specific day and that's still true. For Operational Excellence, the End of Quarter is a period, marked by End of Quarter Started and End of Quarter Ended. Ideally, we execute the tasks necessary to "wrap up" the quarter in a day, we may find that it takes more time and resources. Some companies spend a week dedicated to their end of quarter period. The End of Quarter for Operational Excellence is build with the ability to adjust the dates depending on the scope of work that needs to be completed and the actual calendar dates, such as overlapping with holidays, and shifts accordingly.
The following visualizations are providing as "in-flight" visualizations of Operational Excellence. That means that there's overlapping tasks to be executed related to the both the "newer" and "older" Operational Execellence Cycles. In other words, tasks related to the beginning of "this quarter's" Operational Excellence Cycle and "last quarter's" Operational Excellence Cycle due to their overlapping nature. These will always be prefixed with the quarter they are applicable to.
End of Quarter Events
The following events take place during the End of Quarter period.
- End of Quarter Started
- OKR Rating Completed
- OKR Retrospective Completed
- OKRs Created
- OKR Refreshed
- OKR Owner Confirmed
- OKR KPI Confirmed
- Team Member Review Performed
- End of Quarter Ended
There's plenty to get done during the End of Quarter. We've got to "close out" the older OE Cycle and prepare to execute the OKRs for the newer OE Cycle. For reference, we break them up like this:
Older OE Cycle
- OKR Rating Completed
- OKR Retrospective Completed
- Team Member Review Performed
Newer OE Cycle
- OKRs Created
- OKR Refreshed (Optionally)
- OKR Owner Confirmed
- OKR KPI Confirmed
End of Quarter Gantt
For the purpose of this visualization, the End of Quarter period is set to a week. This can and should be compressed.
If we compress the job to be done and complete the End of Quarter period in a day.
End of Quarter Sequence
TODO: EoQ Sequence
Apart from the first Operational Excellence Cycle the End of Quarter period involves closing out the previous OE Cycle and working towards the current OE Cycle. This next sequence diagram is meant to help visualize the difference.
